Cycle of Becoming

“Born, unravelled, and born anew.”

This series explores the cycle of life as a process of material transformation, tracing how life continues to take new forms and connect through change.

On linen canvas, Washi paper—symbolic of Hitomi’s roots—is layered through an original process. Fine lines are drawn spontaneously across extremely thin sheets of Washi, which are then torn into fragments and loosened in water. By first breaking down its original form, the material is returned to a state between order and chaos, before being reconfigured as a new ground for the painting.

Breaking, unravelling, mixing, layering.

Through each of these gestures, the resulting support accumulates traces of time, bodily movement, and breath as material presence.

Acrylic is then layered onto the surface. Through gradients, drips, and physical gestures, fluctuations of emotion and life, as well as fleeting moments of energy, are transferred onto the canvas.

The flowers that emerge are not depictions of particular plants, but “waves of existence”—life’s vibrations taking form for a fleeting moment.

Within a surface where vitality and stillness, life and death, generation and return coexist, the series traces the continual movement of life as it transforms and circulates.

いのちのめぐり

「生まれ、ほどけ、再び生まれ直す」。

生命が形を変えながら連なっていく、その循環を物質の変化として探るシリーズ。

麻画布の上に、Hitomiのルーツを象徴する和紙を独自のプロセスで重ねていく。極薄の和紙に無作為な線を走らせ、細かく千切り、水の中でほどく。いったん形を壊すことで、素材を秩序と混沌のあわいへと戻し、やがて新たな下地として再構成する。

壊す、ほどく、混ざる、重なる。

その一つひとつの行為を経て生まれる支持体には、時間や身体の動き、呼吸の痕跡が物質として蓄積されていく。

そこにアクリルを重ね、グラデーションやドリップ、身体的なストロークによって、感情や生命の揺らぎ、一瞬のエネルギーを画面へと転写する。

花は、特定の植物ではなく、生命の振動が一瞬かたちを持った「存在の波」として現れる。躍動と静寂、生と死、生成と還元が同時に存在する画面の中で、生命が絶えず変化しながらめぐっていく姿を探っている。
