Cycle of Becoming

This series explores the fundamental cycle of life — birth, dissolution, and renewal — through a dialogue between traditional Japanese materials and contemporary painting surfaces.

Using linen canvas as a support, Hitomi incorporates Washi (traditional Japanese paper), a material that reflects her cultural roots, through a distinctive process.

Delicate sheets of Washi are first marked with spontaneous lines, then torn into fragments and dissolved in water.

Through this act of breaking apart, the material returns to a state between order and chaos before being reconstructed as a new ground.

This process of destruction and regeneration becomes a material reflection of life’s continuous transformation.

The reconstructed surface forms layered textures on the canvas, creating a breathing, organic ground with subtle irregularities.

Upon this surface, acrylic paint is applied through gradients and drips, capturing fleeting emotions and moments of energy.

The floral motif emerges as a symbol of life’s vitality — blooming, fading, and eventually returning to stillness.

It embodies the quiet rhythm of existence, where intensity and tranquility coexist.

いのちのめぐり

このシリーズは、「生まれ、ほどけ、再び生まれ直す」──

生命の根源的な循環を、日本の伝統素材と現代的な支持体の対話を通して探求する作品群です。

支持体には麻画布を用い、その上に作家Hitomiのルーツを象徴する和紙を、独自のプロセスで重ねています。

極薄の和紙に無作為な線を走らせ、細かく千切り、水の中でほどく。

一度“こわす”ことで素材は秩序と混沌のあわいへと戻り、やがて新たな下地として再構築されていきます。

この破壊と再生の工程は、形を変えながら連なっていく生命の循環を、物質として立ち上げる試みでもあります。

再構成された下地は麻画布の上で層を成し、呼吸するような素材感と柔らかな揺らぎを帯びた独自のキャンバスへと変化していきます。

その上に重ねられるアクリルは、グラデーションやドリップを通して、感情のゆらぎや一瞬のエネルギーを画面に留めます。

花のモチーフは、生命が躍動し、やがて静かに還っていく姿を象徴する存在として現れます。

それは熱と静寂を併せ持つ、生命の呼吸のかたちです。
