Cycle of Becoming

This series explores the primordial cycle of life—birth, dissolution, and rebirth—through a dialogue between traditional Japanese materials and contemporary supports.

Linen is chosen as the foundation, upon which handmade washi—symbolizing the artist’s creative roots—is applied through a unique process.

The extremely thin washi is first marked with spontaneous lines, then torn into fragments, gently softened in water, and reassembled as a base material.

This process of destruction and reconstruction situates itself in the “in-between” of order and chaos, materializing the perpetual “cycle of transformation” through which life shifts form and continues in new ways.

Once restructured, the washi base is layered onto linen, evolving into a breathing surface imbued with a subtle, living texture.

On this tactile ground, acrylic layers—built through gradation and dripping techniques—encapsulate the fluctuation of emotion and the energy of a single moment.

Motifs of flowers, and later envisioned trees, embody the rhythm of life’s pulse—its quiet return and vibrant becoming—rendered through gestures that are at once intense and serene.

いのちのめぐり

このシリーズは、「生まれ、ほどけ、生まれ直す」という生命の根源的な循環を、日本の伝統素材と現代的な支持体の対話を通じて探求します。

支持体には、麻画布を選定。その上に、作家の制作ルーツを象徴する和紙が独自のプロセスで適用されます。極めて薄い和紙に無造作に線が巡らされた後、細かく千切られ、水で丁寧にほぐされ、「下地素材」として再構築されます。

この破壊と再構成のプロセスは、秩序と混沌の「あわい」に身を置く試みであり、生命が姿を移し、また別の形で続いていく「移ろうことの循環」を物質化します。

再構築された下地素材は、麻画布に「重ね塗り」することで、呼吸しているような素材感と揺らぎある質感を持つ独自のキャンバスへと昇華されます。

このテクスチャの上に重ねられるアクリルは、グラデーションとドリップの技法により、感情の揺らぎや一瞬のエネルギーを封じ込めます。

花のモチーフは、いのちが躍動し、そして静かに還っていく様を、熱くも静かな感触として描き出します。
