Hitomi

Born in 1991 in Saitama, Japan.Based in Tokyo.

Hitomi is an artist who listens closely to subtle emotions and presences that arise from nature and human connection, translating sensations that cannot be fully expressed through words into painting.

Her practice originates from a long period of observing inner conflict. Over time, however, the act of painting has shifted from an inward dialogue toward a quiet attentiveness to everyday life and the natural cycles that surround us—becoming a way to register the sensation of being alive in the present moment.

Working primarily with acrylic, Hitomi brings opposing elements—reason and intuition, order and chaos, light and shadow—into coexistence within a single pictorial space. Rather than resolving these tensions, she allows them to remain present, forming a state of balance through simultaneity.

The floral motifs that appear on the surface of her works are not decorative. They emerge as symbols of fleeting vitality—moments of intensity that bloom, breathe, and eventually return—holding both movement and stillness within them.

In certain series, Hitomi incorporates materials such as Washi paper , preserving their inherent irregularity and fragility. Through processes of breaking down, dissolving, and reconstructing materials, traces of time, memory, and breath are embedded into the surface. This approach reflects the cyclical nature of life itself—continually transforming while remaining connected.

Her works are characterized by the coexistence of sensitivity and boldness, quietude and intensity. By embracing internal contradictions rather than denying them, Hitomi allows each piece to evolve toward a state of harmony that feels lived-in and embodied.
